Gregory Enoslee Gessel, 41, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 5th at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Center in Paducah, KY.
He leaves behind a legacy of creek adventures with his nieces and nephews, sharp debates that made everyone think, and a rare wisdom that made him the person everyone turned to for honest truth and support.
His absolute favorite role in life was being an uncle. He approached his nieces and nephews not as a sculptor shaping clay to his own design, but devoted to husbandry. He understood that you cannot demand a seedling to become a different plant; instead, he offered the nurturing soil of patience and the sturdy trellises of boundaries, simply letting them grow into exactly who they were meant to be.
He was known for his sharp intellect and his love for a good debate. He never argued to win; he debated to make you think, challenge your perspectives, and help you grow.
He was the one person you could trust with any secret, completely free of judgment. His advice was always grounded, honest, and exactly what you needed to hear.
Greg is survived by his parents Darren and Lori Gessel; his seven brothers and sisters Shaun (Catherine) Gessel, Chris (Natalie) Gessel, Jason Ross, Jennifer (Brett) Leonard, Nikki (Andy) Keeling, Tori Gessel, Steven Gessel; his best friend Nicole Paschedag; his grandparents Royce (Nonie) Tipton, and Steve Riley; his aunt Becky (Bob) Nadekow, his uncle Jeff (Kim) Tipton; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Suzanne Gessel, and Hattie Tipton; his uncle Shaun Gessel
Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Lions Club Building located at 650 Denver Avenue, Paducah, Kentucky 42001.
