Herman “Junior” Humphrey Jr. passed away from his earthly life on Sunday, November 30, 2025, 2025 at 8:30 AM at Life Care Center of La Center in La Center, Kentucky.
He was born on September 7, 1937, to the late Herman and Effie Humphrey. Junior, as he was commonly known, made a profession of faith at the age of sixteen and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in the Reidland area. He and Jane later moved to Kevil and joined Kevil First Baptist Church in 1964. He served as a deacon for many years and held several positions of leadership in the church. He volunteered with eight members of the church to go on a Mission Trip to South Florida and Louisiana to provide help after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. They furnished their own truck and tools and spent a week helping clean up and do repairs.
Junior served in the United States Marine Corps from July 1957 until June 1960. He had a varied work history, including a Delivery Truck Driver for Sears, CTS of Paducah, USEC, TVA, Heublein, and Absorbent Clay. He returned to USEC and retired from there seventeen years later.
He was his children's number one fan and was especially involved in the Kentucky 4-H Horse Program. He served many years as “Tractor Man” at 4-H Horse Camp at MSU and kept the arena in excellent condition. The 1999 State 4-H Horse Show was dedicated to Herman “Junior” and Jane Humphrey for their outstanding support and contributions to this program.
Junior is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jane Harrison Humphrey of Kevil, Kentucky; three daughters, Marsha (Earl Whayne) Davis of Kevil, Melissa (David) Matthews of Wright City, Missouri, and Kendra (Howard) Cunningham of Kevil; a son, Joe (Megan) Humphrey of Iowa Falls, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Seth (Nikki) Cunningham, Kaitlyne (Ben) Metsker, Tyler (Jerica) Davis, Kevyn (Luke) Dunker, Allen Matthews, Ayden Humphrey, and Garrett Humphrey; ten great grandchildren, Reese Dunker, Nora Davis, Whayne Metsker, Eliza Davis, Silas Dunker, Leah Cunningham, Samuel Cunningham, Krislynn Metsker, Maggie Metsker, and Ada Davis; two sisters, Annette (Richard) Ramage of Michigan and Sue Hall of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Nana Humphrey; two sisters, Elizabeth Koerner and Marie Finney; and five brothers, Jim Humphrey, Merlin Humphrey, Hubert Humphrey, Conn Lynn Humphrey, and Hyatt Humphrey.
The grandchildren and great-grandchildren, known as “The Littles,” brought much Joy to Grand Dad and Gran.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Bro. John Chronister officiating. Burial will take place at Kevil Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
