James “Jamie” Tyler, 52, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away peacefully at 8:59 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at the University of Louisville Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by his siblings.  He was born on February 6, 1971 in Louisville, Kentucky to James and Charlotte Tyler. He grew up in Fern Creek with his sister and brother, where he developed lifelong friendships.  He graduated from Fern Creek High School and attended the University of Louisville, before following his dreams that took him to Chicago, back to Louisville and then to Paducah.

When he wanted to make a change or simply try something new - he did, and he went all in.  His first job was as a newspaper sales boy, increasing his sales one day with a rescued kitten in his apron. That also started his history of taking in stray cats. He worked at a grocery, mowed lawns, sold cars at a Ford dealership, and worked at numerous restaurants where he honed his craft to create and manage restaurants.  Jamie was an amazing cook and always knew the perfect ingredients for each dish. He took pride in his culinary creations. In the 90's Jamie ran for an Alderman seat, losing against an established incumbent, but making a statement.

He loved cruises which he frequently planned with his family, choosing excursions or activities that were always an adventure.  He was quick witted with a generous heart, never hesitating to help a friend. Because he was a big kid at heart, his niece and nephews adored him.

Jamie is survived by his parents, James Tyler and Charlotte Mattingly Tyler of Paducah, Kentucky; sister, Andrea (Robert) Preston of Cumming, Georgia; brother, Jeff (Nancy) Tyler of Wilmington, North Carolina; one niece, Morganne (Michael) Turberville; two nephews, Chad Tyler and Evan Preston and two great nephews, Grayson and Miles Turberville; beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends considered as family. His business partner Matt Turner, will keep his memory alive at their sandwich shop, Loopy Larry's.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, W.R. and Lucy Tyler,  and Merlin and Mary Mattingly.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and a Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Paducah, Ky. with Rev. Bruce Fogle officiating.  Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you support your local small business restaurants in memory of Jamie.
