Janet Hunt, 82, of Wickliffe, Kentucky, passed away on April 22, 2026, at Life Care Center of La Center. Janet was born on November 18, 1943, to the late Rev. James Max and Velma Sykes.
Janet was strong in her faith and attended Broadway Methodist Church in Paducah, as long as she was able. She had a creative spirit and found joy in life’s simple, meaningful pleasures. She loved gardening, especially tending to her potted plants and flowers, and was an avid quilter who took special delight in making baby quilts for loved ones. She also enjoyed bowling and spending time doing the things that brought people together.
A graduate of Murray High School, Janet went on to attend Paducah Beauty School, where she earned her beautician’s license. She worked for several years at Hilda’s Beauty Shop in Wickliffe. It was there, through a client who would become her grandmother-in-law, that Janet met the love of her life. Their blind date marked the beginning of a lifelong love story.
Janet later built a long and successful career in the banking industry, where she worked for over 40 years before retiring. Never one to stop learning, she took college classes alongside her daughters and proudly earned her associates degree in accounting.
Known for her honesty, strong work ethic, and unwavering integrity, Janet lived her life with purpose. She was dependable, responsible, and always kept her word. Above all, she was a devoted mother who raised her daughters to be strong, ethical, and compassionate individuals.
Janet will be remembered for her kindness, her resilience, and the steady, loving presence she was to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the values she instilled.
Janet is survived by her two daughters, Cara Mills of Wickliffe, and Anissa (Tony) Wittic of Ft Walton Beach, Florida; one sister, Maxine (John) Brown of Tallahassee, Florida; four grandchildren, Colton Tremblay, Lillian (Brandon Ritch) Mills, Allyson Wittic, and Reese Wittic; two great-grandchildren, Liam Ritch and Buckely Ritch; and several nieces and nephews.
