Jerald “Buddy” David Gilland, 94, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation in Metropolis, Illinois.

Born on January 24, 1931, in Livingston County, Kentucky, to the late Louis and Gladys Salyers Gilland Renfro. Jerald was a man of faith, becoming an elder at Cornerstone Community Church. Jerald also served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, embodying the spirit of courage and commitment. After his military service, Jerald transitioned to working in the insurance field, where his integrity and persuasive communication led him to establish his own agency at one point. Jerald then changed fields and worked for a 20-year tenure at Wilson Camper Sales. Perhaps one of Jerald's most enduring legacies was his role in initiating the Football Program at Lone Oak High School. Above all, Jerald loved his family more than anything.

Jerald is survived by two sons, Andy (Suzy) Gilland of Paducah, and Kevin Gilland of Paducah; four grandchildren, Molly Gilland, Ryan Gilland, Hannah (Alex) Wright, and Matt (Rachel) Gilland; six great-grandchildren, Ava Grace Wright, Drew Wright, Knox Gilland, Willa Wright, Raleigh Gilland, and Wesley Gilland; and a brother, Barry Gilland of Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Mary Ann “Peggy” Gilland; a son, David Gilland; two sisters, Adeline Yielding and Dorothy McLaughlin; and his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Bill Summers officiating.
