Jerry D. Hailey, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on November 13, 2025.

Born on June 14, 1938, in Lowes, Kentucky, to the late Murray Melvin and Nell Bourgh Hailey, Jerry lived a life full of hard work, skill, and independence. He proudly served four years in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. He went on to work for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad as a conductor on Amtrak and a brakeman on freight trains, bringing dedication and pride to everything he did.

Jerry was a man of many trades and many passions. He loved building birdhouses, tinkering with his mower, and at various times ran a car lot and managed a farm. Known for his honesty and strong opinions, you always knew exactly where you stood with him. He cherished time with his family, and his wit, practical nature, and unwavering presence will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his three sons: Murray Lynn (Lonna) Hailey of Hickory, Kentucky; John Robert (Shirley) Hailey of Spencer, Indiana; and Michael David (Kathy) Hailey of Cotopaxi, Colorado; as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sonia Iris Arvelo Hailey, and his two brothers, Melvin Hailey and Hilton Hailey.

Per the family’s wishes, there will be no public services at this time.
