Joseph Eugene Potts went to heaven at 1:52 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025.  

Joe was born on December 6, 1936, to Goebel Potts and Elizabeth Randle Potts.  He was a 1954 graduate of Lone Oak High School.  Joe married Janice Fuller on June 6, 1964, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage.  Joe was a U.S. Army veteran and worked at the railroad for a short period of time, and worked as a meat cutter at Wonder Market. Joe went to work in Calvert City at Air Products Chemical as a Chemical Operator and retired in 1994.  Joe and Janice moved to the lake for more family time and attended Lakeview Baptist Church.  Joe had such good memories of living in Marshall County for 33 years, but kept ties with people in Lone Oak.  Joe and Janice moved back to Lone Oak in 2007 and have attended Lone Oak First Baptist Church, where Joe sang Bass in the church choir and in the Notes of Joy group.  

While living at the lake, Joe, Diane, and Randy rode dirt bikes at Turkey Creek, which led them to Gold Wings Motorcycles.  Joe belonged to the Gold Wing Roadside Association and traveled with groups to every state except Florida, Alaska, and Hawaii.  Joe made trips to all of the western states many times with couples from Lone Oak Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Janice Fuller Potts; one daughter, Diane Potts Hughes, Alpharetta, Georgia; one son, Randy (Rachel) Potts, Louisville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Tyler Hughes, Brayden Hughes, Keaton Hughes, Makenna Potts, Nathan Potts and Amelia Potts; nieces, Debra (Roger) Reeves, Sherry (Donnie) Bone, and Jennifer (Patrick) Terry all of Cunningham, Kentucky; brothers-in-law, Ralph Timmons; Don (Jenny) Fuller, Reidland, Kentucky, Frank (Cindy) Fuller, Kevil, Kentucky; Sisters-in-law, Karla (Tom) Beckwith, Grand Junction, Colorado, Carol Smith, Charleston, South Carolina, Julie (John) Millay, Owensboro, Kentucky; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding in death were one sister, Anna Potts Timmons, one brother-in-law, Kerry Smith, and his parents.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Lone Oak First Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Thomas, Rev. Bob Martin, and Rev. Jamie Coomer officiating.  Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors.  Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time of 1:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak First Baptist Church.

Expression of sympathy may be made to the Lone Oak First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Music Fund, 3601 Lone Oak Road, 42003.
