John Allen DeHart, 78, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Baptist Health of Paducah.
Born on March 30, 1947, in Herrin, Illinois, he brought joy and richness to the lives of those around him for 78 years. John served his nation with honor in the United States Army Special Forces as a 1st lieutenant Green Beret. John's leadership abilities and courage were evident to all who served by his side. After completing his military service, John transitioned to a career in the restaurant industry. Over the course of his career, John owned multiple restaurants, including the Sirloin Stockade in Paducah. He shared his love for the restaurant business with his children, inviting them each in turn to work by his side. A man who thrived in the outdoors, John’s passion for exploration drove him west to the deserts of New Mexico and the mountains of Colorado. John was an avid woodsman who found excitement and solace in camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing expeditions. John also possessed a great sense of humor, a gift that he generously shared, endearing him to all. His laughter was contagious, his wit quick, and his warm, approachable demeanor led to many enduring friendships. Above all, family was at the core of John's existence. His love for his family was a force; it guided him, gave him purpose, and was the source of his greatest joys.
John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janet Snider DeHart of Paducah; a daughter, Kristy (Kevin) Milton of Nashville, Tennessee; two sons, John “Jad” DeHart (Amy Stallons) of Aurora, Kentucky and Eric (Tiffany) DeHart of Boaz, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Leo, Jase, Elliott, Audrey, and Tommy; two sisters, Cheryl Collum of Cherokee, Alabama and Gail (Bill) Longworth of Cadiz, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
