John Lucian Garnett Sr., 74, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center.
John was born on January 17, 1952, to the late Clarence Ernest Garnett and Betty Catherine Brown Garnett.
John was a member of Grace Fellowship Church. He spent many years as a maintenance mechanic for Union Carbide, where he was valued for his dependable nature, practical skill, and strong work ethic. After retiring from Union Carbide, he continued to serve his community by working as a janitor at West Kentucky Community Technical College.
John was a very headstrong, blunt, ornery person. He had a sarcastic sense of humor but was also a man with big emotions and a big heart. He loved deeply and was loved deeply.
John is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Bowman-Stroud, and her husband, Ronnie of Paducah; two sons, John Brandon Garnett and his wife, TaShena of Paducah, and John Lucian Garnett Jr. of Hardin, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, John T. Garnett, Tyler Snow, Taylor Stroud, Brayden Stroud, Tevin Garnett, Amias Garnett, and Everly Garnett; three great-grandchildren; and six sisters and brothers, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Bates Garnett, and nine sisters and brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, with Pastor Kevin Gounce officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the service hour of 12:00 pm on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
