Larry Don Wilkins, Sr., lived a full and generous life rooted in the community he loved. Born on December 5, 1943, in Paducah, Kentucky, Larry's 81 years were marked by dedication, kindness, and a love for the great outdoors. His journey came to a peaceful close on November 23, 2025.

Larry's early years set the stage for a life of service and commitment. After serving his country honorably as an Army veteran, he found his vocation at McKeel Equipment, where he spent numerous years as a committed Parts Manager. His work ethic and friendly demeanor turned professional acquaintances into lifelong friends.

Bravery and service were highlighted aspects of Larry’s character when he was named the Marshall County Hero of the Year after he assisted Sailor Gutzler, following the plane crash that claimed the lives of her family.  Larry and Sailor became lifelong friends, and his act of bravery was an accolade that spoke volumes about his character and his actions that went above and beyond the call of duty. Always one to put others before himself, Larry's heart was as open as his door, and his home became a place of solace and camaraderie.

Larry was known for his blunt honesty—a trait that brought both chuckles and heartfelt appreciations from those who knew him best. Larry’s life is a testament to kindness and generosity. Indeed, Larry's garden was a testament to his giving spirit. Each year, as the harvest arrived, he took delight in sharing his produce with neighbors, friends, and family.

Bill Herzog was Larry’s best friend for many years.  Larry and Bill were drafted together as both served faithfully in the U.S. Army.  U.K. Basketball brought these friends together regularly and Bill was loyal in visiting Larry three to four times per week.  While Bill had seemed like family for many years already, the friendship between the two provided the connection for Larry’s sister Janice to fall in love and marry Bill, making him officially part of the family.

Larry's love for fishing was well-known, an interest that allowed him moments of tranquil reflection and joy. There, by the water's edge, Larry waited patiently for the next catch.  He loved his two dogs, Bonnie and Leo, Dachshunds, and they loved him in return.

Larry is survived by his three children, Larry Don “Donnie” (Lori) Wilkins of Paducah, Renee (Tony) Virella of Malibu, California, and Robert Scott (Dione) Wilkins of Calvert City; eight grandchildren, Paige Wilkins, Brooke Wilkins, Koty Wilkins, Chase Virella, Drew Virella, Maddy Virella, Mariah Thacker, and Randy Howell; three great-grandchildren, Molly Howell, Lydia Wilkins, and Mia Wilkins; two nephews, Sean Herzog and Craig Herzog; two special friends, Danny and Kathy Hardin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Louis Wilkins and Katherine Attebury Wilkins; one sister, Janice Herzog; one brother, Bobby Wilkins; and one grandson, Austin Tyler Wilkins.

A Funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Lone Oak with Rev. James Keeling officiating.  Visitation will begin at 11 A.M. and continue until the service begins at 1 P.M.
