Larry D. Hayes Sr., 86, of Paducah, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Paducah, Kentucky. He was born on March 4, 1940, in Gadsden, Alabama, to the late Gordon Thomas and Ila Jewell Duncan Hayes.
Larry spent his working years as a machinist, a trade that reflected his steady hands, practical mind, and strong sense of responsibility. He retired after years of dedicated service with James Marine, Inc. and Industrial Maintenance & Gears in Paducah.
Larry had many interests that reflected both his patience and his appreciation for detail. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, pursuits that allowed him to explore history, craftsmanship, and the stories carried by treasured pieces from the past. He also enjoyed making jewelry, a hobby that demonstrated his creativity and careful attention. In addition, he loved hunting and fishing, activities that gave him time outdoors and moments of peace and reflection. Larry and his wife Joyce were members of the Pond Club.
Above all else, Larry loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family meant the world to him, and he took great joy in watching younger generations grow and thrive. Larry is survived by his two children, Larry D. Hayes Jr., and Tammy (Marvin) Hobbs, both of Paducah; his grandson, Jason Wayne Hines of Paducah; his two great-grandchildren, Cy Bradley Hines and Greyson Louis Hines of Paducah, along with several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Joyce A. Johnson Hayes; and his two brothers, Gary T. Hayes and Jon D. Hayes.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah with Rev. Jimmy Franks officiating. There will be no visitation. Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah are in charge of arrangements.
