Lawrence A. Harris passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Calvert City. Lawrence was born in Marshall County to the late Ira Lois and Nellie Langston Harris.

Lawrence proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Special Forces and was honorably discharged. His time in the service was something he was deeply proud of, and his love for his country and fellow servicemen stayed with him for the rest of his life.

He worked for many years as an operator at the ISP chemical plant. Later, he gladly accepted the title of “janitor,” a move he liked to joke about, because it allowed him to escape the midnight shift and spend more time at home with his kids - a trade he considered one of the best career moves he ever made.

Lawrence was a true family man. He adored children, and children naturally gravitated toward him. He and his wife, Lucille, were known for their generosity and open home, often caring for siblings and family members and making sure there was always food on the table for anyone who needed it.

He had a wonderful sense of humor that made him a joy to be around. Lawrence also had many talents, including being an accomplished country and Western square dancer. He and Lucille appeared in seven episodes of the country line dancing television show Club Dance, filmed in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the White Horse Café, memories they cherished for years.

A Christian man, Lawrence lived his life guided by his faith and was a member of Southland Baptist Temple.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lucille Harris of Calvert City; his son, Dr. Steven (Letitia) Harris of Paducah; stepdaughter, Marlene Farmer of Benton; stepsons, Stephen (Paula) Myers of Benton and David (Cara) Myers of Benton; bonus son, Terry (Jeanne) Belcher of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; twelve grandchildren; and more than thirty great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of his kindness and humor.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Walker; three sisters, Lois, Sue, and Nita; and one brother, Robert Earl Harris.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, with Dr. Steven Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:45 a.m. until the service time of 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to New Pathways for Children, 3233 Shaw Road, Melber, Kentucky 42069.
