Linda Carol Berndt, 57, of Genoa, IL died May 29, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born June 23, 1967, in Germany to Harry Black and Glenda (Crowe) Frost. She married Charles Berndt on June 6th,1992, and had two children, Rebecca and Will, both of Genoa, IL.
She graduated from Elgin High School in 1985 Carol took singing classes at Absolute School of Music and took art classes at Elgin Community College. Employment- Carol worked at Kanematsu for several years before she became a stay-at-home mom, taking care of her two children, a job she took a lot of pride in.
Carol attended Christ Community Church in Dekalb, IL, where her love for the Lord continued to grow and flourish.
Carol enjoyed singing since she was little. She went on to take classes for it when she was older and even started competing in competitions. In her last two years of life, she spent time between chemo sessions making ornaments and other seasonal crafts, and was able to join two craft fairs just this past year.
While on hospice, Carol picked up her hobby of drawing and painting and filled many pages with still lifes. Carol has shown her strength and bravery to everyone over the last three years. Carol fought hard during her stage 4 cancer diagnosis. The family wants to bring attention to how much she fought even after going through almost 50 sessions of chemo, 20 radiation sessions, and gamma knife. There were plenty of other things in between, but Carol was able to find joy with her family during this hard time. She was able to help her find her deeper passion for art and bring such an impact to the people around her during this time.
Carol's favorite color was purple, so the family is asking attendees if they could wear purple during the service in honor of her.
Survivors include her husband- Chuck Berndt; daughter- Rebecca Berndt; son- Will Berndt, her mother-Glenda Frost, son- Tim Black (wife-Kim Black, and son- Keyan Mosquera).
She was preceded in death by her father- Harry Black and her two beloved dogs, Brandy and Bella.
Her visitation will be on Saturday, June 14th from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. Luncheon to follow 1:00 pm at Christ Community Church, 2350 Pride Ave, DeKalb, IL 60115.
In Kentucky, there will be a Visitation on June 21st At Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Bardwell, 41 US Hwy 51 North, Bardwell, KY- Visitation 12:00 pm-2:00 pm. Burial will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Bardwell, KY, at 2:00 pm.
