Linda Sue McElya Fowler, known lovingly as Linda Sue, passed away on May 25, 2026, at Murray Calloway County Hospital. She was born on February 17, 1954, in Paducah, Kentucky, and lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and steady care for the people around her.

Linda Sue was a friendly, thoughtful, and passionate woman whose presence brought comfort and warmth to her family, friends, and all who knew her. She was raised with strong values and a deep appreciation for hard work, faith, and family. In her early years, she grew up on a farm where she helped raise tobacco and vegetables, experiences that shaped her lifelong work ethic and grounded spirit. Those who knew her best will remember her as someone who met life with grace, compassion, and a generous heart.

She graduated from Heath High School in 1972 and continued her education with determination and purpose. Linda Sue earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Paducah Community College and later received her Registered Nurse degree from West Kentucky Vocational and Technical College. Her commitment to caring for others became a defining part of her life and career, and she served faithfully in the nursing profession for many years.

Linda Sue retired from Baptist Health Paducah after a career devoted to helping others during some of their most vulnerable moments. Her work reflected the same thoughtful and compassionate nature she carried into every part of her life. She was also a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church, where her faith remained an important part of her journey and where she found fellowship and strength.

In addition to her nursing career, Linda Sue worked as a school bus driver and as a custodian, always willing to do what needed to be done with humility and dedication. She approached every responsibility with care and reliability, and she earned the respect of those who worked alongside her. Her life was a testament to perseverance, service, and quiet strength.

Linda Sue is survived by her husband, Gary Fowler; her daughter, Linley Wright, APRN FNP-C of Mayfield, Kentucky; two step-sons, John Fowler and his wife Heather of West Paducah, Kentucky, and Chuck Fowler and his wife Chrissy of Draffenville, Kentucky; two sisters, Janice Pace and her husband Ted, and Faye Spillman, both of West Paducah, Kentucky; one brother, Jerry McElya and his wife Judith of Paducah, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Cathy McElya of Paducah, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Chaney Shook and her husband Reed; four step-grandchildren, Morgan Fowler, Jordan Fowler, Katie Fowler and her husband Dakota Feagin, and Sydney Watkins and her husband Keagen; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Agnes Butler; her brother, Bill McElya; and her parents. Though her passing leaves a deep void, her family takes comfort in the many memories she created and the example she set through her love, strength, and devotion.

Linda Sue McElya Fowler will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering care for others, and the meaningful life she lived. Her legacy will continue in the hearts of those who loved her, and her memory will be cherished always.
