Virginia Louise Travis of West Paducah, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the age of 96.

Louise was the oldest member of Spring Bayou Baptist Church in West Paducah. She served on several search committees to find the next man God led them to call as their pastor. She also served in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and on several decorating committees for the remodeled sanctuary and around the church.

Louise loved her Lord with all her heart. When asked if she was looking forward to seeing her husband, Tommy, in heaven, although she loved and missed him dearly, her answer was, “I’m looking forward to seeing my Lord!” She served her family with so much love; we always knew when we arrived at her home, the garage door would be up, the porch light on, and something cooking on the stove. she made sure you knew you were welcome! Louise was known for her coconut pies, so much so that they would be eaten first, so as not to miss out! Louise was the true matriarch of the family, and she was loved and respected. Our favorite slogan we had for her was “I’m not being bossy; I’m just telling you how it should be done.”

Louise is survived by her “two good boys”, Gregg Travis (Denise) of Murray, Kentucky and Trent Travis (Cathy) of Eddyville, Kentucky; her “bonus son, ”Keith Jerral (Lisa) of  West Paducah; all of her grand and great-grandchildren, whom she adored, Amy Beth Walker, Hope Newcomb (Nick), and Zachary Travis (Natalie); her four great-grandchildren, Simon, Elliot, Harper, and Lochlan; her brother Ralph McKinney; and many nieces and nephews.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John “Tommy” Travis; her parents, Thomas Jefferson “TJ” McKinney and Lora Della Campbell McKinney; five of her six siblings, Ruby Lee Morehead, Dorothy Nell Guess, Emmitt McKinney, Oliver McKinney, and Ray McKinney.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Pastor Wes Morehead officiating. Burial will follow at Doom Cemetery in Lyon County, Kentucky.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the funeral home.

The Family wants to thank her sitters, Karen Baker, Donna Daniels, Brenda Ames, and Emma French. Thank you for the hours you spent laughing with Louise’s humor, meeting her physical needs, and loving her like she was your own sister! While living at The Lakes Assisted Living in Paducah, Louise was blessed with two special caregivers, Erycah Edwards and Machelle Ware. The family is also grateful for Louise’s medical care, Shane Rust, Nurse Practitioner of West McCracken Health Care, PLLC. He was the only one who could talk Louise into retiring her weed eaters (She had 6) at the young age of 92 and let her two “good boys” take over that job.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Spring Bayou Baptist Church, 11205 Woodville Rd. Kevil, KY 42053

Although she will be missed beyond measure, we are so happy she is where she so desperately wanted to be, with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
