Marma Joan Handley, age 82, of Crutchfield, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at her daughter's home in Bardwell, Kentucky.
Marma was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, on October 19, 1942, to the late Wilford and Frances Lorrine Copeland.
An ever-active, on-the-go individual, Marma was known for her reluctance to sit still. She always took the opportunity to explore and was always ready for the next trip, whether it was a weekend getaway or an afternoon excursion. She loved to read and listen to music, but above all, Marma loved her family deeply. She cherished every moment spent with her children, but it was in the role of grandmother and great-grandmother that she truly flourished. Friends were like family to her, and her ability to make each person feel special and heard came naturally, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Marma is survived by her partner, Herman Johnson; her daughter, Penny (Scotty) Ballard, of Bardwell; son, Chad (Angie) Jackson, of Mayfield; four sisters, Laura (Shawn) Stucker of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Frances Kay Sutton of Paducah, Anna Hawes of Paducah, and Debbie Copeland of Paducah; four brothers, Michael Copeland of Cairo, Illinois, Donald Copeland of Bardwell, David (Kathy) Copeland of Wickliffe, and Anthony (Becky) Copeland of Cairo, Illinois; four grandchildren, Dustin (Addy) Ballard, Payton (Chayton) Brown, Brittany (Travis) Jackson, and Makayla Jackson; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Colter, Logan, and Easton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Rita Faye and Fredericka Copeland; four brothers, Jesse, Velton, James, and Ricky Copeland; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Bardwell with Pastor Billy Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the funeral home.
