Marsha Nichols, a lifelong resident of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025. Born on December 8, 1953, in the same city she loved and never left, Marsha's warmth and dedication to her community were evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. A loving matriarch, Marsha is remembered for her thoughtful nature and the passionate way she cared for her family, her church, and her work.
Marsha’s devotion to her family was unparalleled. She is survived by her adoring daughters, Amanda (Michael) Evitts of Paducah, KY, Kristy (J.R.) Poindexter of Boaz, KY, all of whom are carrying on her legacy of kindness and compassion. Her son, John Clayton (Jenna) Nichols in Florida; her mother, Hazel (Leon) Moyers of Paducah, KY; and her siblings, Trudy (Randy) Hill of Richmond, IN, Kim (Rick) Jones of Paducah, KY, Sarah (David) McDougal of Sharpe, KY, and Mary (Jeff) Tynes of Sharpe, KY, as well as Thomas (Erna) Moyers of Santa Anna, CA and David (Tina) Spears of Paducah, KY, will cherish memories of her boundless love and support. Marsha's spirit will also live on through her beloved grandchildren - Renee (Anthony) Taylor, Madison (Bowen) Peck, Kealey (Ethan) Darnell, Zachary Poindexter, Macey Evitts, Jaylee Hayden, Brady Poindexter, Taycen Fennel, Isabella Taylor, Maclyn Nichols, Abby Taylor, and Gabby Taylor, and the joy of two great grandsons soon to arrive. Her loss is also deeply felt by her Mamaw, June Pinnegar of Paducah, KY, along with numerous nieces and nephews whose lives she touched.
Preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Gene Nichols, her parents, Ruben Moyers and Opal Hyatt Chadwell, her brother, Ruben Moyers, Jr., her mother, Cora Dishman, her aunt, Dona Doom, one niece, one great nephew, and her cherished four-legged friend, Little Man, Marsha joins a family of angels who have undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
Marsha’s career as a Data Operator at South Central Bell Telephone Company was marked by diligence and attention to detail. Her work ethic was matched only by her service to Gospel Mission Worship Center, where as a charter member, she poured her heart into every aspect of church life. From adorning the church with holiday decorations to preparing meals for congregants and grieving families, Marsha's service through Awana ministry and her willingness to assist in all capacities were acts of love that enriched the lives of others. Moreover, her involvement with the Red Hat Society and Homemakers Club, as well as her time dedicated to the Girl Scouts, showcased Marsha as an emblem of community engagement.
A devout Christian, Marsha's faith inspired her every action and guided her through life's decisions with grace. To describe Marsha as anything less than loving, thoughtful, and passionate would not do justice to the profound impact she made. Her absence leaves a void, but her influence remains a comforting presence.
Marsha Nichols lived a life of service, devotion, and boundless love-a testament to the Christian values she embraced and lived by. As her family and friends mourn her departure from this world, they also celebrate her ascension into eternal peace, where she will continue to watch over all who were blessed to know her.
