Mat Valerius, 83, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at his residence.
Mat was born on July 18, 1942, to the late Edward and Emma Wendling Valerius in Du Quoin, Illinois. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, a retired Deputy Jailer at the McCracken County Jail, and volunteered his time at St. Vincent de Paul. Mat was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.
Mat is survived by two sons, Chris Valerius and his wife, Kim of Paducah, and Scott Valerius and his wife, Melissa of Paducah; four grandchildren, Alec Valerius of Columbus, Ohio; Bailey Valerius-Gelestino (Nick), Hunter Valerius and Harley Valerius all of Paducah; and a sister, Matilda Harsy of Du Quoin, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hodge Valerius; five sisters, Kathryn Norris, Edna Finger, Dorothy Weihn, Lucille Merkel, and Theresa Valerius; two brothers, Albert Valerius and Edward Valerius; and his parents.
Memorial Graveside Services will be held at a later date.
