Michael Lynn Veatch, 77, of Cunningham, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at The Neighborhood at Paducah in Paducah, Kentucky.
Michael was a member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church and attended Corinth United Methodist Church until his passing. His faith and his connection to his community were important parts of his life.
Michael was a proud graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School, and his love for the Blue Tornadoes never faded. Anytime he spotted someone wearing a Paducah Tilghman shirt, he was sure to strike up a conversation and ask about football. He never met a stranger and could find something to talk about with just about anyone. Whether visiting with friends, chatting with someone he had just met, or simply enjoying a drive around town, Michael genuinely enjoyed people and the connections he made along the way.
Michael spent more than 40 years working at Westvaco before retiring. Outside of work, he found enjoyment in many of life’s simple pleasures. He loved shopping at Sam’s, traveling, going out to eat, and especially saving room for dessert. He took great pride in keeping his yard neat and well-maintained, with beautiful flowers and a garden that he truly enjoyed tending. Earlier in life, he enjoyed following NASCAR and cheering on Dale Earnhardt, and even spent some time enjoying a round of golf.
Above all, Michael will be remembered for his generous and selfless heart. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether that meant buying groceries for someone in need, offering someone a ride, or quietly doing whatever he could to make another person’s day a little easier. He never did these things for recognition or praise, and in fact, he would much rather not be thanked. Helping others was simply part of who he was. His kindness was often quiet, but it made a lasting difference in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
Michael also had a special love for animals, especially his dogs and cats, who held a very special place in his heart.
Michael is survived by his wife of 20 years, Vickie Veatch; his son, Shayne (Kelly) Veatch of Paducah; daughters Shannon (Sean) Williams and Stacy (Jeff) Canter of Paducah; step-children Lynn (Kim) Deweese of Nevada, Missouri, Angel (Craig) Hodges of Nashville, Tennessee, and Regina (Bryan) Garner of Nashville; his grandchildren, Baily (Jordan Cary) Caudle, Andrew Caudle, Caroline Veatch, Emily Veatch, Jace Veatch, Alyssa Deweese, Rachel Deweese, Nolan Deweese, Paul Godges, Graci Hodges, Mitchell Hodges, Mattie Hodges, Millie Garner, Harrison Garner, and Maddie Williams; his only great-grandchild who was also named after his Pa Pa, Jettson Michael Cary; brothers, Don Veatch and Greg (Martha) Veatch; his sister, Suzanne Underhill; mother-in-law, Mildred Buchanan; brother-in-law- Allen Buchanan; sister-in-law Sarah Just; and his great-nephew Colton Buchanan.
