We celebrate the life of Robert Earl Rice, affectionately known to many as Bob, who passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on December 11, 1941, Bob's journey through life was marked by his warm personality, relentless work ethic, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

Bob served his country with dedication as an A03 Aviation Ordinance man in the U.S. Navy from 1961 until 1965. His commitment to excellence and the United States of America was evident in his tireless efforts during his service. Upon his return to civilian life, he continued to apply his great work ethic as a lineman at South Central Bell, where his friendly demeanor and cooperative spirit made him a reliable colleague and a treasured friend to many. His contribution to both his company and his community was noteworthy, as he was known for his willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed.

Bob was a people person through and through. He had an uncanny ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life, radiating warmth and sincerity in every conversation. He never met a stranger, and his good-humored laugh was a source of joy at every gathering.

Bob's sense of humor, coupled with his extraordinary work ethic, made him a beloved character in both his professional and personal circles. His legacy of warmth, friendship, and dedication will continue to live on in the memories of his colleagues, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.

While Bob’s presence will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to uplift and inspire. We are grateful for the time we spent with Bob, and he will be remembered with love and admiration always.

Robert Earl Rice is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janalyn Devinney Rice; one brother, Joe Rice of Louisiana; several nieces and nephews; and one great-nephew, Owen Devinney, who was like a grandson to Bob.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen D. Rice and Lucile Harrington Rice; two brothers, Allen “Sonny” Rice and James “Jim” Rice.
