Rodney A. Byassee passed away on June 22, 2026, at Mercy Health Lourdes in Paducah, Kentucky. Rodney leaves behind a lifetime of memories, music, and kindness that touched countless lives. A true free spirit with a heart as big as the outdoors he loved, Rodney lived life on his own terms and encouraged others to do the same.

Following his graduation from high school, Rodney surprised everyone by enlisting in the United States Army. Without telling anyone of his plans, he met with a recruiter and began a journey that would take him to flight school in Georgia and serve his country for two and a half years.

Music was Rodney’s greatest passion in his life. He attended school in Nashville to study lighting and sound production and found his true calling working behind the scenes at the Country Music Festival. Creating unforgettable experiences through lights and sound brought him tremendous joy, and there was no place he would rather have been. As a proud member of IATSE Local 46, he dedicated himself to the entertainment industry, using his talents to create memorable experiences through lights and sound. There was no place he would rather have been. Rodney loved all kinds of music, especially rock and roll, and was known for enthusiastically sharing his favorite artists with everyone around him. Among those he admired most were John Prine and The Doors.

A gifted dreamer and creative soul, Rodney considered himself a poet and took great pride in having one of his poems published. He saw beauty in the world around him and expressed it through both his words and his actions.

Rodney possessed a deep compassion for others, especially those who were struggling. He had a tender heart for the underprivileged and often purchased pizzas to deliver throughout Nashville, making sure those experiencing homelessness had a meal and knew someone cared. Acts of kindness came naturally to him because helping others was simply who he was.

An avid environmentalist long before such ideas became commonplace, Rodney loved nature and cherished every opportunity to be outdoors. Whether camping or exploring the natural world, he found peace and purpose in the environment he worked so hard to appreciate and protect.

Those who knew Rodney will remember his huge heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering individuality. His mother often said he should have been born in the 1960s, and anyone who knew him would understand why. He embraced peace, music, nature, and love for humanity in a way that was entirely his own.

Rodney’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the kindness he shared, the music he loved, and the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Rodney is survived by his girlfriend, Estee Baker; mother, Janet (John) Hill of Bardwell; his father, Kenny (Sherri) Byassee of Union City, Tennessee; three brothers, Rocky (Stacie) Byassee of Bardwell, Kyle Byassee of Union City, and Cody (Danielle) Hill of Aurora, Colorado; three sisters, Kendal Byassee of White Bluff, Tennessee, Kelly (Eric Hutchinson) Aldridge of Clinton, Kentucky, and Katie (Erik) Hill of Lone Oak, Kentucky.
