Sarah Lynretta “Lynn” Almon, 87, of Paducah, passed away on June 30, 2026, at her home in Paducah, surrounded by her children and other family members. She was born on April 7, 1939, in Paducah, Kentucky, to the late Clarence L. and Nellie Katherine O’Nan Throgmorton.
She pursued her education later in life with purpose and earned an LPN Nursing Degree from John A. Logan College, and finally finished with an RN degree at the age of 48. Lynn passionately prepared herself for a career that would become a defining part of her life. Lynn began her work in nursing as a Nurses’ Aide for three years at Lourdes Hospital, where she gained valuable experience and demonstrated the compassion and reliability that would characterize her long career.
She served as a Charge Nurse on the 4th floor and eventually earned her certification to administer chemo when the 4th floor added Oncology. Her career at Lourdes Hospital spanned 26 years, where she offered skilled care, leadership, and comfort to countless patients and families.
Outside of her career, Lynn found joy and meaning in her faith community. She was a longtime member of Palestine United Methodist Church. Palestine is where, as a young woman, she met her husband, Jerry Lynn, and shared her musical gifts by playing the piano. Her service to the church was an important part of her life, and her music added beauty and comfort to worship for many years. Her faith was evident in the way she lived, and her church family held a special place in her heart.
Lynn is survived by her four children, Leslie (Pete) Slankard of Paducah, Maria Willis of West Paducah, Paul (Julie) Almon of Paducah, and Angela Thompson of West Paducah; her 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as “Memaw”; and her sister-in-law, Jane Almon Kimsey.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Jerry Lynn Almon; her two sons-in-law, Mike Willis and Dean Childers; one sister, Nell DuPriest; and two brothers, Paul Reid and Billy Griffin.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Derek Warford officiating. Burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery in West Paducah. Visitation will be Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
