Shirley Jean Cunningham, known affectionately as Mammy to her many friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Mercy Health Lourdes.

She was born on January 15, 1947, to the late William Clete Freeman and Gladys Marie Newton Freeman in Benton, Kentucky

Shirley, along with her husband Bill,  will be remembered as a dedicated businesswoman who owned and operated both Rivertown Mercantile and Shirley's Antiques with passion and integrity. Her shops were not simply places of commerce but were gathering spots where stories were shared and friendships were forged. Her keen eye for unique finds and treasures made her businesses beloved institutions in the community.

In her leisure time, she was known for her zest for life and her love of going to the casinos. She enjoyed the thrill of the game and the joy of lively surroundings. Yet, her greatest pleasure was found in the time spent with her family.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Chrysti Boswell (Joe) of Paducah; one grandson, David Clymer (Amy) of Paducah; two great-grandchildren, Landon Clymer and Isabella Clymer; and her best friend, Grandma Dale Rudd of Paducah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William ‘Bill’ Cunningham; three sisters, Edna Mae Farmer, Alice Faye Dick, and Janice Kaye Freeman; two brothers, James Freeman and Harold Freeman; and her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Encil Edmonds officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the service hour of 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
