Walter Nathan Whinnery, III age 68 went to his heavenly home to live with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 5 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on October 28, 1954 in Charleston, West Virginia. His parents were Walter Nathan Whinnery Jr, and Ella Mae Pfeiffer Whinnery. Walter grew up in Louisville, KY. He was a baptized member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He and his parents were charter members of Peace Lutheran Church, Owensboro, KY.  Over the years he attended Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Louisville, KY, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Murray, KY, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Paducah, KY. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Regional Officer for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and Representative for Lutheran Layman’s League.

He also volunteered in the community, including with Paducah Ambassadors, and as a tax aide for AARP for over ten years. One of his most cherished memories was serving 5 years as the Den Leader and Cubmaster for his son’s Cub Scout Pack 20 in Lone Oak from 1992-1997. He loved travel with family, and activities on the water. He earned his BE and ME in Environmental Engineering from the University of Louisville and upon graduation was chosen “Engineering Student of the Year” by the Louisville Engineering Society. Having received his Professional Engineering Certification he was an Engineer for 35 years at United States Enrichment Corporation, Paducah, KY.

Walter is survived by his wife Pamela, his son Walter N. Whinnery IV of San Diego, CA, his sisters Susan Gulick (Roger) Oreana, IL, Mary Deppen (Jim) Fisherville, KY,  and his beloved niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. David Appold and Rev. Joshua Reifsteck officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Kenton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
