Delmus was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Lavelia Brandon, and two brothers, Harvey Eugene Brandon and Carl Edward Brandon. He is survived by one sister, Patricia Ann Brandon Jackson of Paducah, Kentucky; three brothers, Bobby Leonard Brandon of Knoxville, Tennessee, Leslie Jerome Brandon, and Charles Ewing Brandon, both of Atlanta, Georgia, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He had a special connection with cousins in Louisville, Kentucky.
In 1965, he accepted employment with the public school system in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Specifically, he taught 5th and 6th grades for 27 years at Bards Elementary School. After retirement, he traveled extensively both domestically and abroad. He continued to work with children part-time in the Benton Harbor school system for several years after retiring.
Delmus was committed to his faith in God and attended worship services consistently because he loved attending church. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, where he regularly engaged with the members, and he was also a devoted member of St. John Baptist Church in Murray, Kentucky, before moving to Michigan.
He was a member of Big Brothers, the YMCA, and, along with the Fowler family from his church, often adopted others as his godchildren. He was also a devoted member of St. John Baptist Church in Murray, Kentucky, before moving to Michigan. He was introduced to the Fowler family when their son, Corey, became his student. The families became so close that they eventually adopted Delmus. He remained a close friend of Margaret Fowler until the end.
Delmus had a love for music. He played the piano and the guitar and sang at his church in Benton Harbor. At his high school graduation, he performed “Invictus.” In addition to his musical talents, he loved to bowl. He was a member of several bowling leagues in Benton Harbor and proudly displayed numerous winning trophies in his home.
Delmus was blessed, and we, his family, believe God said, “Welcome Home” as he left us. We miss you, but we realize God needs you more than we do.
