Grayling Glenn Matthews was born on August 14, 1957, to Leslie Jr. and Sherry Rouse Matthews in Paduch, Kentucky. He remained an only child and both parents preceded him in death.
He departed this earthly life for eternal rest on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paducah, KY, where he was a patient for the last four years of his life. He passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 67 years.
Grayling was exposed to religion early in life. He attended Oakalone AME Church with his mother and sometimes Rocky Ford Baptist Church with his father.
Grayling grew up in a friendly neighborhood called Pool Road. He attended Union Station School, a Rosenwald School, near his home for his elementary education. He graduated from Lone Oak High School and upon graduation enrolled at the West Kentucky Vocational School where he studied Auto Mechanics and received a certificate upon completing his studies.
Grayling is remembered for his love for country music, his vehicles, his gun and knife collection, and spending time with his friends, including caretaker, Mr. Charles Hamilton. He was delighted that Mr. Hamilton permitted him to spend time in Hamilton’s Body Shop. Additionally, he loved to spend his holidays in the homes of family members. He could be found at the home of his Grandmother, Lettie Matthews and his Cousin, Kathy Minter.
His survivors include three aunts, Ocie Mae Dance and Barbara Nell Townsley of Paducah, KY and Dr. Lottie Matthews Lecian of Phoenix, Arizona, Cousins, Kathy Minter, Mike Minter, Jenise Jones, Reverend Ronnie Mason, Minster Todd Titsworth and Perry Mason all of Paducah, Kentucky and a Host of Other Relatives and Friends.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Monday, May 19, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Pettus Rowland Funeral Home with Reverend Gaylon Grubbs and Reverend Benny Heady officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
