Shelley Eugene "Claude" Keeling Sr.

Shelley Eugene Keeling, Sr., whose voice and laughter brightened the lives of all who knew him, passed away on July 25, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on September 5, 1946, Shelley lived a life marked by compassion, and warmth  - a presence as comforting as it was honest.  Shelly was a proud Navy Veteran who had attended the former Lincoln High  School.
 
Those most deeply touched by Shelley’s love include his Devoted Wife, Theodosia White Keeling, and his Beloved Children: Daughters, Rocia Keeling and Michelle Keeling, and his son, Shelley Keeling, Jr., all of Paducah, KY; 19 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends and other relatives.
 
Shelley’s life was not untouched by sorrow, having said farewell in his journey to his dear daughter Kim Shannon and cherished grandson Braeden Keeling, as well as his parents, Joseph and Georgia Elizabeth Patterson Keeling, and brothers Lemuel and Floyd Keeling. Their memories were carried gently in his heart, shaping the empathy and devotion he showed to others.
 
Those who were fortunate enough to share a meal with Shelley knew he was not just a cook, but the cook—his legendary barbeque bringing friends and family to the table and smiles to every face. He dearly loved his animals, especially dogs, calling each one "The Boy," a simple phrase that carried his affection in every utterance.
 
Shelley’s spirit thrived on connection—as a social butterfly, his personality was magnetic, drawing in new friends wherever he went. He was an enthusiastic Louisville Cardinal fan, his energy infectious during every game. Sports became another avenue for his joy: first as a vigorous softball player, then passing on his wisdom as a manager and coach, and finally as an avid follower of soccer, tennis, and especially golf, with Tiger Woods marking the pinnacle of his sports heroes.
 
Yet Shelley’s true legacy lies in the way he stood for others. A pillar in his community, he was always poised to help those in need and was a passionate advocate for civil rights. Unafraid to speak his mind, he voiced his convictions sincerely and openly, embodying honesty and inspiring others to do the same. His straightforward demeanor was not just a hallmark, but a gift—those who sought his advice always left knowing where they stood, feeling seen and understood.
 
Above all, Shelley Keeling, Sr. filled the world with kindness, strength, and determination. Though he will be keenly missed, the lessons he shared and the memories he created endure in his loved ones, his former teammates, friends, and neighbors. The indelible mark of his life will echo long after the applause has faded from the fields where he played, coached, and cheered.
 
As we say farewell, we remember the laughter, the heartfelt debates, the shared meals, and the countless kindnesses of Shelley Eugene Keeling, Sr. His was a life well-lived and deeply loved.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Greater Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Alfred Anderson officiating.

Family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
