Sudie Mae Cofield, 69, of Metropolis, Illinois, departed this life on June 23, 2026, at Tranquility Hospice in Marietta, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family.
Sudie was born on June 2, 1957, in Harrisburg, Illinois. She spent her life in both Carrier Mills and Metropolis, Illinois, where she attended Lincoln High School. Throughout her life, she remained deeply connected to her family, friends, faith, and community.
Sudie found great joy in attending New Beginnings Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member. She loved searching for treasures at yard sales, shopping, and spending time with those she loved. She was known for her generous spirit and kind heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors, friends, and even strangers. She truly lived by the principle of “loving thy neighbor,” and her acts of kindness touched countless lives.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: One Daughter, Heather Cofield of Woodstock, Georgia; and Two Sons, Shawn (Wendi) Cofield of Maryville, Illinois, and Jeremy Cofield of Lexington, Kentucky. She is also survived by Five Granddaughters and Five Grandsons; Two Brothers, Dr. C.B. (Roszalyn) Akins and Franklin (Ruby) Brasher; Five Sisters, Bobbie Craig, Mary Hansen, Hazel Tole, Carolyn (Sam) McManus, and Willa Akins; as well as many extended family members, nieces, nephews, honorary sons and daughters, dear friends, and all those whose lives were blessed by her compassion and friendship.
Sudie was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lee Akins Thomas; her father, Benjamin Cofield; her stepfather, Kenneth Thomas; four brothers, Harry Akins, Robert Akins, Joe Arthur Brasher, and Harold Brasher; and three sisters, Mattie White, Linda Lowery, and her twin sister, Cynthia Cofield.
Though her earthly journey has ended, Sudie’s legacy of faith, love, generosity, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026, 12:00 NOON, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 408 W. 7th St., in Metropolis, IL. Reverend Dr. Orlando McReynolds and Reverend Dr. Clyde B. Akins will officiate.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. to the funeral hour.
Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Metropolis, IL.
