Donn Fisher, born November 24, 1948, in Cairo, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024. He was the beloved son of Robbie Fisher and the late Alvin Fisher. Donn's educational journey took him to Murray State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Journalism, a Master’s in Communications, and a Ph.D. in Organizational Development from the University of Mississippi.
In his personal life, Donn shared fifty wonderful years of marriage with his college sweetheart and best friend, Kathleen Madrey Fisher. They were blessed with three children: Candice Fisher Moore (Justin), Chase Fisher (Julie), and Channing Fisher Phillips (Chris). Donn was deeply cherished as "Granddaddy" by Marissa and Landon Moore, Novi and Nash Fisher, and Margo Phillips. Donn also leaves his two brothers, Monte Fisher and Joel (Susan) Fisher, and his sister Treva (Randy) Doores.
A dedicated Highland Church of Christ member for nearly five decades, Donn served as a Deacon for twenty-four years and as Chairman of the Highland Fellowship Committee for twenty-eight years. He took immense pride in organizing memorable events that united the church community.
Professionally, Donn retired in June 2022 as the Executive Director/CEO of MSQPC-The Quality Productivity Center, leaving behind a legacy of promoting business efficiency in the Mid-South area. His expertise in the field spanned twenty years, during which he authored eighteen books and consulted globally. He was awarded the title of MSQPC Emeritus Executive Director by Southwest Tennessee Community College.
Donn's impact extended internationally as one of the original members of the national Baldrige Board of Examiners. He was a Baldrige consultant in numerous countries including Japan, Venezuela, England, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Ireland, Thailand, Kuala Lumpur, and Mauritius. Officials with the Venezuelan Ministry of Development sought Donn as a consultant to oversee their nation's first Baldrige award program. Commissioned by the World Bank, Donn worked as a visiting scholar with the President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. In addition, he worked with the City of Germantown, Tennessee, to help them achieve the 2019 National Baldrige Award and with the Federal Express Corporation in Dubai on their Baldrige Application for the Dubai Quality Award.
Outside of work, Donn found immense joy in traveling with his family. His favorite retreat was the Florida beaches with family and friends. For over forty years, he enjoyed hosting the annual New Year’s Day brunch, a tradition among his Highland friends and family.
Donn's kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and profession will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves a legacy of faith, love, service, and excellence.
