Mr. Grogan was born on December 24, 1944, in Murray, Kentucky to the late John Dual Grogan and Audrey “Modean” (Nicholas) Grogan. Steve grew up in the Shiloh Community in Calloway County and raised his own family within a few hundred yards of his homeplace. He graduated from Calloway County High School in 1962 where he was a member of the Baseball Team. Mr. Grogan retired from Frito-Lay, Inc. as a route salesman in 2001 after 32 years and to many in the Murray Community and surrounding area he was known as the “Potato Chip Man”. After retirement and a few short years later, Steve worked for Stories Paint in Murray as a delivery driver. Mr. Grogan served on the Calloway County School Board from 1995 to 2017 until having to step down due to illness. He was also known by many as the coach along with his brother-in-law, Red Overbey, of the Banditos Girls Slow Pitch Softball Teams in the 1970’s. Still to this day when one of his former players see him out and about, they always still call him, “Coach”. Steve had the privilege and honor of being named a Kentucky Colonel. He will be remembered by his sense of humor and witty phrases, never knowing what was going to come out of his mouth next.
