Mrs. Mary Alice Humphries, age 94, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026, at her home.
            Mrs. Humphries was born on May 20, 1932, in Tri City, Kentucky, to the late Harry and Annie Hendon Burton. She was a graduate of Sedalia High School and Murray State University.  She began her professional career at the Merit Clothing Company in Mayfield, Kentucky.  Following that she had a 30 plus year teaching career beginning at Sharpe Elementary in Marshall County, Kirksey, and North Calloway Elementary School. Former students frequently told her she was their favorite teacher.  She had a passion for mentoring student teachers.  A few years ago, a group of students surprised her with a 3rd grade reunion.  She was the oldest member of the Goshen United Methodist Church and enjoyed many years singing in the Goshen choir and being a member of the Goshen United Methodist Women group.  Mrs. Humphries was a proud 50-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. 
    Mrs. Humphries was also an avid cook and loved to garden, known for her cakes, jams, jellies and home canned vegetables.  She cherished giving them away to various fund raisers, bazaars, family and friends.   Since retiring, in addition to baking and canning, she spent many hours reading and playing cards on Wednesdays with her special Canasta group of friends.
     Mary Alice was a very avid Murray State University Racer basketball fan, having season tickets for 74 years.
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Gerald Dean Humphries, a sister, Bettye Scholes Nipper; two brothers, William James Burton and Joe Pat Burton.
            Survivors include a daughter, Donna McClure and husband Michael of Crestwood, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews, special friends and caregiver, Joey Crenshaw.
            A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Rev. April Arnold will officiate, and burial will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
