Greg was born to William Charles Barnett and Fanny (Hodge) Barnett on September 24,1954 at Fort Gordon, Georgia while his dad was stationed there. He attended Carrier Mills Elementary School for a few years. His dad was from Stonefort and his mother from Carrier Mills.
Greg recognized his need for a Savior at age 11, and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Eddyville, IL. His Family relocated to Paducah KY where Greg graduated from Heath High School. Greg received his Bachelor of Science from Murray State University in 1978. He later completed course work for Medical Technologist and Nursing. Greg married Caroline Marie Kennedy on May 19th 1990. He loved and cared for her dearly for many years until her passing at home on January 23, 2024. They had one son, Joshua Brook Barnett, who passed away shortly after a premature birth in 1995.
Greg was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading and the outdoors, especially flowers, trees, and birds He worked in custodial work most of his life, and retired to care for his wife who had MS.
Greg moved to Texas in October 2025 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, so his family could care for him. Greg is survived by his mother Fanny of Texas, "adopted" mother Judy Chapman, a sister Kelly (Bruce) Blair of Texas, and a brother, Michael (Michelle) Barnett of Texas Couisins Danny (Louise) Yahne , Tonya (Richard) and Daniel Shea and.several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Greg was preceded in death by his father Charles and sister Greta.
Memorial services will be held at Lone Oak Baptist Church - Room D104, February 16, 2026 at 11:00 am. An intimate graveside service will be held at Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills February 16 2026 at 3:00 pm.
