Sharon Ann Grothe passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness at the age of 69.
She was from Stevensville, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. Sonnichsen and Marcella E. Sonnichsen (nee’ Hennelgarn), and her brothers Bob Sonnichsen and Gene Sonnichsen, both of Stevensville.
She is survived by her husband Mark Grothe and daughter Marsha Grothe and granddaughter Cynia McGee of Gainesville, FL., and daughter Melissa Grothe of La Vergne, TN. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Hudzinski of Stevensville.
Sharon got great enjoyment spending time with her granddaughter and decorating the house and yard according to the season. She was active in arts and crafts. Her best works were beaded Christmas stockings and bunny-eared baby blankets donated to newborns of friends and family. She also took great joy in the role of Mrs. Claus, especially for the foster kids in Paducah, KY., where she lived for 28 years. Her 10 years working at Dollar General led to many friendships in the Paducah area.
She retired to Gainesville in 2023 and devoted most of her free time to family. She truly embodied the adage of a life well lived and will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held in Paducah at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or Project Hope Animal Shelter in Metropolis, IL., would be greatly appreciated.
