Theodore "Ted" Koeltz, born on December 4, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

Ted came into the world with an innate curiosity and a restless spirit—someone who always felt the pull to see what was beyond the horizon. That drive to explore would define much of his life, both in the places he lived and the journeys he took.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, proudly serving his country during a turbulent chapter in American history.

In 1977, he met the love of his life, Patti Peabody, and they were married on April 8, 1978. Later that year, on November 9, they welcomed their son Andy—his pride and joy. He threw himself into fatherhood with the same dedication he brought to everything else in life. He was especially active in Boy Scouts with Andy, sharing countless campouts, troop meetings, and life lessons along the way.

Ted began his professional career as an accountant with Devoe & Raynolds in Louisville. His work eventually led the family across the country—first to Tampa, Florida, then to Riverside, California, before settling in St. Louis in 1982. There, he continued his career with US Paint, rising through the ranks to become Plant Controller and later Plant Manager. St. Louis became home for the next 15 years, and it held a special place in his heart forever.

After leaving US Paint, he worked for Infinium Software in Atlanta, Georgia, but quickly realized his heart belonged in the Midwest. He returned to St. Louis just over a year later.

Following the passing of his beloved wife Patti in 2011, he returned to his roots in Louisville to be closer to family.

A devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, he loved traveling to new cities to catch baseball and football games with his brother Ken, always eager for the next trip. His passport was well-worn, filled with stamps from Germany, Spain, Mexico City, Africa, Colombia, throughout the Caribbean and more, each trip a reflection of his curiosity and love of adventure.

Ted will always be remembered for his quick, sarcastic wit—a sharp tongue delivered with a smirk that could cut through tension or spark laughter in an instant.

He lived a life defined by humor, quiet strength, and a deep love for his family. His legacy is one of perseverance, humor, and a spirit that never stopped exploring.

Ted is preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Patti Koeltz, his parents, Ann Koeltz Gyr and Caryl Koeltz, a brother, John Koeltz and step siblings, Cathy Nanni, Steve Gyr and Ronnie Gyr.

He is survived by his son Andy Koeltz (Nikki and her children, Ryan, Christian and Cale)a sister, Caroline Atkinson (Art) and a brother, Ken Koeltz, a nephew, Josh Atkinson and step siblings, Barbie Payne (Dennis), Patty Gyr, and Jennifer (David).
