Lyon County fought to the finish, but defending state champions George Rogers Clark prevailed 60-56 in the boys Sweet Sixteen quarterfinals on Friday night at Rupp Arena.
The Lyons got off to a quick start and led 13-6 after the first quarter. But the Cardinals righted the ship and broke out with 24 points in the second quarter to go into the locker room leading 30-24 at the half.
The difference between the two teams in the second half was only one bucket, and they held each other to just 10 points apiece in the fourth quarter.
Lyon County's Travis Perry, the newly crowned all-time scoring leader in Kentucky high school basketball, led all scorers with 19 points. Brady Shoulders and Jack Reddick chipped in with 14 apiece.
The depth of George Rogers Clark (29-5) was on display as five Cardinals scored between 10 and 15 points.
GRC moves on to the semifinals Saturday against Frederick Douglas. The other semi features Woodford County (22-12) against Warren Central (34-1).
Lyon County ends the season with a record of 31-6.
