Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Saturday officially retired the jersey of former Saluki great Mike Glenn, one of the most accomplished players in program history. After 50 years, Glenn is still third on the all-time Saluki scoring list.

Glenn played for SIU from 1974 to 1977. He was a standout guard and an Academic All-American who helped lead the Salukis to national prominence. He entered the SIU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1983.

Following his college career, he went on to play in the NBA from 1977-87 with the Clippers, Knicks, Hawks and Bucks.

His jersey was retired during a special ceremony during last week‘s home basketball game in Carbondale.

Glenn’s No. 34 jersey now hangs inside Banterra Center. Glenn's jersey will become the second retired by Saluki Basketball, joining Amy Rakers. Three numbers have been retired, including Charlie "Chico" Vaughn (No. 20), NBA Hall of Famer Walt Frazier (No. 52), and women's basketball star Sue Faber (No. 44).
