The 7th Annual Preston Cope Classic Wiffleball Tournament will take place on Saturday, September 13th, in Calvert City.
Registration is still open to teams that want to participate, but they must register by Thursday, September 11th. The event will once again feature Fun and Competitive Divisions for everyone from kindergarten to adults. The registration fee is $125 per team, and the teams are limited to five players each. Teams may be co-ed. Each team will play three games.
Preston's father, Brian Cope, told West Kentucky Star, "We have a lot of fun out there, and it's a good time for the community... everybody to get together and play the game that Preston loved so much."
The Murray State Racer Baseball team will be there to sign autographs and take pictures. The Marshall County High School Cheerleaders will be participating again this year, as well. In addition to the games, there will also be a silent auction featuring baseball memorabilia from Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, Masyn Winn, Shohei Ohtani, and others.
All the proceeds benefit the Preston Cope Foundation, which funds scholarships and other community initiatives. To date, the Foundation has given 162 scholarships over the last seven years.
The Classic gets underway Saturday morning, September 13th, at 9 a.m. at the Calvert City Ball Park.
