It was an exciting day to award the January Teacher of the Month. We surprised Ms. Whitney Alexander as she was preparing for her class Valentine Party at Hickman County Elementary School in Clinton.
You could see that Ms. Alexander truly loves her job. She “always knew” she wanted to be a teacher and definitely has the energy for a class of second graders! We took some time to ask a her a few questions and learned that she wasn’t always a Hickman County Falcon, she went to school in Carlisle County. As Superintendent Heather Spillman exclaimed “She’s a Falcon now!” it was immediately apparent that this Teacher of the Month is loved by all and plans to teach here forever. Ms. Alexander said “I’m very EXTRA and I want them to remember the way the learned all the fun things.” She said she wants them to remember how much they are loved and she was there for them.
Outside of the classroom Ms. Alexander enjoys working out, spending time with friends and family and of course shopping. Like most teachers, she has a wish list and she will likely spend her prize money on her classroom. This is the first time we’ve asked a teacher to share their Amazon Wishlist. West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. As the January winner, Ms. Alexander will join the other 2025-2026 awardees for the West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year which opens in April. Each teacher’s school receives a yard sign to show that a “Teacher of the Month Works Here.” It’s a great addition to the school entrances and a way schools can show off their winning teacher!
