When you interview the teacher of the month whose favorite subject to teach is calculus, you know it’s going to be interesting! This is St. Mary High School Math teacher Mrs. Allison Green and she is the West Kentucky Star October Teacher of the Month.
During our visit last week, we surprised Mrs. Green with her certificate, yard sign and check for $100 courtesy of award sponsor Scott Walker Construction. She plans to spend her prize on Flex which is something new the school started doing during the day. Of course she’s spending it on her classroom!
We learned much about Mrs. Green including how long she’s been teaching and that she is learning a new language. “I’m trying to learn Mandarin…My daughter is learning Mandarin in college.” So naturally she decided learn as well. (Remember, I said this would be interesting!)
The excitement in the school is why recognizing teachers is important. This contest is now in its 6th year thanks to award sponsor Scott Walker Construction. No matter which school, they send someone to award the prize and say THANK YOU to the winning teacher. This month they even sent St. Mary alum, Harold Willett to award the check!
West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. As the October winner, Mrs. Green will join the other 2026-2027 awardees for the West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year in the spring. Each teacher’s school receives yard signs to show that a “Teacher of the Month Works Here.” It’s a great addition to the school entrances and a way schools can show off their winning teacher! Also, thanks to our sponsor, the monthly prize is now $100 and the yearly prize is $500!
