'Operation Dry Water' targets impaired boaters on the lakes this July 4th weekend

Independence Day weekend is almost here, when Kentucky's lakes and rivers will be filled with people celebrating America's 250th birthday.

But Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, alongside other law enforcement agencies, plan to step up with extra patrols to ensure that everyone has a safe boating experience this holiday weekend by participating in "Operation Dry Water".

The goal of the nationwide campaign happening July 3-5 is to educate and prevent impaired boating-related injuries and deaths, because nearly half of boating deaths involve intoxication.
