In her 32 years of teaching – all of it in McCracken County Schools – Ms. Traughber has been teaching German for about 25 of those. (Ja. Ausgezeichnet!) When she started teaching English at Lone Oak High School in 1993, she began adding German classes because the school needed a foreign language and she had a degree in German! Ms. Traughber was obviously the right pick! As interest grew, she began only teaching German. And the rest, as they say, is history.
When asked about her favorite part about teaching her students she replied, “the daily interaction with the kids.” She explained to us how her students acknowledge they are learning more than just a foreign language in her class. And that touched her heart. Ms. Traughber would like her students to remember how they felt in her classroom. “Hopefully that is with joy. And that I tried to be fair with everyone and be compassionate.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Traughber enjoys gardening, cooking, hiking and of course, traveling “Anywhere I can go!” And this summer, we hope Ms. Traughber and all our teachers are enjoy some much needed time off.

West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. As the April winner, Mrs. Traughber will join other 2024-2025 awardees for West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year 2024 – 2025. Each teacher’s school receives a yard sign to show that a “Teacher of the Month Works Here.” It’s a great addition to the school entrances and a way schools can show off their winning teacher!
