West Kentucky Star’s first teacher of the month awarded

 
August marks the return to the classroom and a to-do list a mile long. This year our region added something special. Nearly two thousand parents and students nominated their favorite teacher for the inaugural West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month award.

“Preschool to high school and every grade in between was represented in August. We could not have asked for a better response to the first Teacher of the Month,” said Jamie Futrell, Bristol Broadcasting general manager.

The winner for August is Ashley Woodruff, the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher specializing in the culinary pathway at McCracken County High School.

In her 19 years of teaching, eight of which have been at McCracken, Woodruff said she has been excited to see her students across the state excelling in their culinary careers. She also helps clarify the transition from home economics to family and consumer sciences.

“We are very proud of our history as home economics, however now we are focusing more on the multiple roles that people have in their lives not just home and family, although that is important. We also prepare students now more for careers and that’s why we have career pathways. I teach the culinary pathway. We also have early childhood education pathway and so forth. We are preparing people now for multiple roles in the family and community and to be a responsible citizen and employee in the workforce,” said Woodruff.

The award, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, will continue through each month of the school year. All 10 Teachers of the Month from this school year will be considered for the favorite teacher in the 2023 West Kentucky Star People’s Choice Awards.
