Beshear visited Hopkins and McCracken counties on Monday with checks and announcements of various government ventures. While he was in Dawson Springs, the governor responded very favorably to a question from News Edge reporter Edward Marlowe about the picnic.
"I think you may well see me in Graves County in the first week of August," Beshear said. "Certainly there's a great story to tell there."
He went on to list the tornado recovery efforts still underway, and the new jobs and industry that has been announced to bolster that recovery.
Should Beshear attend Fancy Farm, it would be his first visit since being elected governor. In 2020, the picnic was canceled by COVID, and in 2021, Democrats rallied elsewhere. In 2022, Beshear had a planned trip to Israel with other national leaders before torrential flooding in eastern Kentucky changed his plans.
On the Republican side, gubernatorial nominee and state’s Attorney General Daniel Cameron also has yet to officially confirm his appearance, but almost certainly will be on the podium after delivering a fiery speech in 2022.
