On Wednesday, Governor Andy Beshear joined local leaders and company owners for the groundbreaking of the STATE38 Medical Cannabis Safety Compliance Facility being built in Mayfield.
STATE38 is a facility where samples of medical cannabis received from licensed businesses will be tested to ensure compliance with state requirements.
Kentucky legislators okayed the sale of medical marijuana in the state as of January 1st, but the physical infrastructure of growing, distributing and selling the drug is still being developed.
Sam Flynn, Executive Director of Kentucky's Medical Cannabis Program, said in March that he hoped that the state would have cannabis available at least in some parts of the state by the end of the year.
