According to WKDZ, the system will enable Kentucky State Police to use automated equipment to enforce speed limits in active highway work zones. The Jarad Lee Helton Act, which was signed into law in 2025, allows citations to be issued when a vehicle is traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, provided that required safety personnel and vehicles are present.
The CASE unit will be located in the I-24 construction zone between mile markers 85 and 89, and is one of five KYTC projects statewide to use the equipment.
Motorists are reminded to slow down, stay alert and use caution in the construction zone. Officials say speeding creates additional hazards for both drivers and highway workers.
