The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has requested additional police presence at the Cairo Road/Olivet Church Road intersection because of drivers moving construction barrels and traffic controls.
The intersection is closed just west of I-24 Exit 3 while crews replace asphalt in the intersection with concrete.
KYTC warns that moving or ignoring a work zone traffic control device can result in a citation, which includes a $150 fine. Drivers can face an additional $50 fine for each sign, barricade, or barrel moved or ignored in the work zone.
The traffic control at the site is designed to ensure the safety of workers and motorists, as well as to maintain access to businesses around the intersection.
The current configuration likely will remain in place for another week until concrete cures and crews move to remove another section of asphalt.
