The former executive director of HOPE Calloway has been arrested on theft charges.
A social media post from HOPE Calloway Wednesday afternoon said: "During a routine leadership transition and organizational review, in partnership with an independent third party, the Board of Directors identified financial discrepancies involving the former Executive Director Nathan Carter that required further review."
"The Board has engaged legal counsel and is taking appropriate steps, including reporting the matter to the proper authorities. HOPE Calloway remains fully operational and committed to compassionately serving individuals and families in our community.”
Carter is being held in the Calloway County Jail on charges of theft by deception and theft by unlawful taking.
The Murray Sentinel reported Carter announced his resignation from the organization in December but was assisting through the transition. HOPE Calloway hired Amber Sugg as the executive director in January.
