A former Murray High teacher has been arrested on a rape charge that dates back nearly two decades.

Kentucky State Police have been investigating claims that Jason Shelby had inappropriate sexual relations with students as far back as 2005. In 2018, the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board reported allegations to KSP involving Shelby and at least two students. Shelby resigned his position after that report.

After a lengthy investigation, a victim came forward in August of 2025 and told investigators that she had been in a sexual relationship with Shelby in 2008 and 2009 while a student at Murray High. The female had been 15 and 16-years-old at the time. Information from this victim was what gave investigators the evidence to seek a warrant.

The warrant was obtained on Tuesday, and Shelby was arrested on Wednesday. He was charged with 3rd degree rape and sexual abuse and booked into the Calloway County Jail.

The investigation is continuing, and troopers said that anyone with information on this or other related incidents should contact KSP.
