A funeral scam has been reported in Graves County.
The Graves County Sheriff's Office said Thursday scammers have apparently been watching local obituaries, then contacting next of kin stating that the funeral home is requiring an "insurance payment" be made over the phone pertaining to the funeral bill.
They said the callers might even use local funeral director's names. There has been a reported occurrence of this happening in Mayfield, as well as Paducah.
A representative of Brown's Funeral Home in Mayfield stated a funeral home would never make such a call, and would never ask for any sort of payment in that manner.
Authorities said anyone who receives a call like that should contact local law enforcement.
