Golconda police chief relieved of duties

The City of Golconda has relieved its Police Chief of his duties.

According to a press release issued Wednesday, Mayor Gail Barger said that Chief Steve Walker was out, effective immediately.

The mayor did not provide a reason for Walker’s removal in the brief statement.

No new or interim police chief was named. In the meantime, the mayor said that the Pope County Sheriff’s Department will handle all law enforcement services within the City of Golconda until further notice.
